A little about this project

Hemsley House Nursery in Maidstone wanted to enhance their outdoor play and learning areas to make them safer, more engaging, and weather-friendly for children. Our team worked closely with the nursery to transform their outdoor spaces with a combination of surfacing, shading, and play-friendly features.

Scope of Work:

  • Wetpour over existing block paving: We installed a new wetpour surface over the existing block paving roadway. Wetpour provides a smooth, impact-absorbing surface that reduces the risk of slips and falls, making it ideal for children’s play areas. Unlike hard block paving, wetpour is resilient, comfortable underfoot, and low-maintenance. We also incorporated two zebra crossings to encourage role-play and help teach road safety in a fun, interactive way.

  • Artificial grass and Conipave surfacing: These areas offer a soft, durable, and all-weather play surface for children, perfect for running, games, and outdoor activities throughout the year.

  • Bark pit with shade sail and seating: A bark-filled play area was installed, complete with a shade sail to protect children from the summer sun, and seating for rest or supervision.

  • Wall-mounted timber canopy with fencing and guttering: We built a timber canopy along the wall with wooden fencing all around. The canopy is fitted with guttering to channel rainwater safely to the ground, ensuring a dry, usable space even during wet weather.

The project transformed Hemsley House Nursery’s outdoor spaces into a safe, fun, and educational environment, supporting both active play and learning in a secure, child-friendly setting.
