Everyday Play

As the deadline to submit your PE and Sport Premium Funding report approaches (31 July 2025), now is the perfect time to ensure your school is making the most of this vital funding – not only meeting Department for Education (DfE) requirements, but truly enhancing your pupils’ physical education, activity, and wellbeing.

The government has confirmed that £320 million will be available for the 2025/26 academic year for the PE and Sport Premium, continuing its commitment to supporting schools in creating healthier, more active environments for all pupils. This ensures ongoing opportunities to invest in inclusive equipment, physical activity spaces, and targeted support for girls, disadvantaged pupils, and children with SEND. Don’t worry, if you are wondering What can we spend our PE and Sport Premium on, Everyday Play are here to help.

Why the PE and Sport Premium Matters

The PE and Sport Premium is more than just a funding stream. It’s a powerful tool to embed a culture of active, healthy living in your school. With the UK Chief Medical Officers recommending 60 minutes of physical activity each day for all children and young people (20 minutes for those with disabilities), the role of primary schools is crucial. It’s at this stage that children build the habits and positive experiences that shape lifelong attitudes toward physical activity.

The DfE expects primary schools to provide at least 2 hours of high-quality PE each week, supported by a broad range of extracurricular activities and competitive opportunities. PE and Sport Premium funding is designed to help schools go above and beyond their core PE provision – to create lasting improvements and equal access to sport for all pupils.

Your Reporting Responsibilities

By 31 July 2025, all primary schools in England must:

  • Publish an online report outlining how the PE and Sport Premium has been spent, and

  • Submit a digital expenditure return to the DfE

The focus must be on additional and sustainable improvements to PE and sport – investments that continue benefiting pupils year after year.
