A little about this project
We received the brief to deliver on a bespoke design of a large outdoor classroom. We offered our expertise to develop the school’s design and with a few adjustments, a larger classroom within their budget was agreed. Our design of timber structures and our construction knowledge allowed us to work with the school to adapt their plans, providing the best value for their money which created a pretty stunning learning environment (if we do say so ourselves). An outdoor classroom offers a wide range of benefits for pupils and teachers alike. Learning outside encourages greater engagement by providing a stimulating, hands-on environment that brings lessons to life. Fresh air and natural surroundings can improve concentration, reduce stress, and support overall wellbeing, helping children feel calmer and more focused when returning indoors. Outdoor classrooms also promote active learning, creativity, and collaboration, allowing pupils to explore subjects in a practical and inclusive way. By integrating nature into everyday learning, schools can support academic progress while also encouraging physical activity, social development, and a stronger connection to the environment.

At Sussex Road School we strive to develop bespoke outdoor environments on a fairly small site.
